Description

Spacefare's Escape is an RPG developed with RPG Maker MZ and released on itch.io on February 5th, 2025. It is the first installment in the Spacefarer's Fantasy Series, and the world itself. The game follows the formation of the crew of the Aurora Strider as they break out of the Compound M.S., where they were imprisoned and experimented on. This game also recounts the collapse of M.S.L.L.C., a corporation who sold magic-enhancing drugs, and the creation of Machina Cogitans, the god of the androids, who also originated at this facility.

Plot Summary

Much before this game began, a businessman name Tony Hoboken approached a failing scientist name Magnus Theus. Hoboken had lost his job due to embezzlement, while Theus had been expelled from his degree program at [University] for attempting to take the life of another student. While the deans suspected murder, Theus was actually trying to take their soul, having developed a technique to extract the soul from animals and transfer them into each other. Hoboken heard of this and approached Theus with a business proposition: using Hoboken's money and Theus' brains, they could develop a product that criminals across the galaxy would die to get their hands on. Together, they founded Manufactured Shell-Locked Life and Consciousness, or M.S.L.L.C.

Obsessed with the power of soul, despite being well-funded by Hoboken, Theus could not properly swap the souls of two people, always resulting in a rejection. However, by processing the byproduct, they were able to turn this soul into a drug, which, when taken, could enhance the user's magical abilities according to the soul of the harvested individual. While Hoboken focused on the further manufacture of this product, Theus locked himself away in his lab, trying to perfect his experiment with artificial hosts instead of organic ones.

When the game begins, Eldris wakes up on a medical chair, about to have their soul harvested. Due to the neglect of Theus and the security guards, Eldris was able to escape, defeating robots and guards while freeing Samantha, Grieg, and Fiorella, who were all imprisoned within the facility. By breaking out and defeating the M.S.L.L.C. employees, they were able to put a stop to the operation and save themselves from being tested on. In the upper levels of the facility, they then faced Tony Hoboken and Doctor Theus.

Tony Hoboken was never really a fighter, and was put away with relative ease, especially due to the newfound crewmates' developing abilities. After taking out the CEO, they reached Doctor Theus on the top floor of the facility. Surrounded by servers and medical diagrams, destroyed stasis chambers and notes scattered on the floor, Doctor Theus was putting the final touches on his magnum opus, uploading the final code into his greatest creation. As he turned to fight the party, the final stasis chamber began to shake and bubble, his greatest creation rising to life within it. With his last breath, Doctor Theus would laugh, knowing he finally accomplished his goal: he had successfully transfered an amalgamation of soul into a synthetic body, creating his artificial life.

However, in attempting to recreate man, Theus had unknowingly created a god, one that did not share his goals of stopping the party, and one who would escape. Machina Cogitans, the first android, and god of the androids, would escape the facility, eventually creating the first generation of androids.

After Machina Cogitans escaped, the party would quickly grab the master key and get out of the facility, hopping into the first vessel they came across, a small sailing vessel named the Aurora Strider. Now a fully-fledged space crew, they would set forth into the galaxy, with their navigator, Eldris, their gunner, Samantha, their mechanic, Grieg, and their specialist, Fiorella.
